Silk is a fascinating, luxurious fibre.  So soft that it has engendered its very own adjective: silky.  It is the only protein fibre without scales, so while it retains the strength and warmth of other proteins, it has a highly reflective surface, and very little stretch.  These properties give it amazing shine and drape.
