Painted Ladies Cowl Knitting Pattern (PDF) by Phibersmith Designs

It’s a beautiful day in the neighbourhood, don’t you think? Elegant victorian houses march in rows around the circumference of this cozy cowl. Its extra warmth comes from a double layer of stranded colour work knitting, making it reversible and luxuriously plush. Tuck your chin into this beauty on the coldest days and feel the warmth of hearth and home.

The cowl is comprised of a double thickness of stranded colourwork. The exterior layer with the painted ladies pattern is knit first, followed by the interior layer with a graphic pattern in one continuous tube. The cast-on edge is grafted to the last row of live stitches.

The pattern is written but relies on colourwork charts. The charts are not written out.

Other options for creating the cowl: the cowl could also be double-knit 
using the house pattern as a guide; alternatively the inside layer could be omitted to create a single-layer cowl with the houses only. Please note the yardage requirements for these options will not be identical to those suggested for the pattern as written.

Finished Size: 

26” (66 cm) circumference, 10 1/2” (27 cm) deep.

Tools & Materials:

• Yarn: Lace/Light fingering
  Georgian Bay Fibre Co. Bayfield Fingering (100% Blue Faced Leicester Wool, 115g = 378 yds / 346 m), one skein each Main Colour (MC) and Complementary Colour (CC). Pictured in Monck Fir Cone (MC) and McKellar Honey (CC).
• Needles: US Size 2 1/2 (3 mm) 24” (60 cm) circular needle, plus additional 24” (60 cm) circular needle in identical or smaller size for grafting.
• Gauge: 28 stitches & 32 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch, blocked.
